Who Is The Enemy Now?
Under Bush the government can arrest and imprison (and torture?) "enemies" without a trial or even seeing a
lawyer or a judge. You might ask, "So what? These people are terrorists."
How easily could this become a tool of political repression? Could we become a country where if the Republican
Party says you're a "terrorist" then you're going away?
For an indication that this could head in that direction, let's look at who is the "enemy" right now. Who is being
tracked by the government for suspicious activity? Who could be on that "terrorist" list one of these days? From
Profiling: How the FBI Tracks Eco-Terror Suspects, an arrest of an "eco-terrorist" suspect. The "profile" that got
him arrested?

Agents placed the commune under surveillance and developed a political profile of the residents, discovering
the owner of the house and his father "have posted statements on websites opposing the use of fossil fuels,"
one doc reads. Another says the owner had ties to a local chapter of Food Not Bombs, an "anarcho-vegan food
distribution group." Among activities flagged in bureau docs: the father of the owner had conducted a "one man'
daily protest" outside a Toyota office, was interviewed for an article called "Dude, Where's my Electric Car!?" and
posted info on a Web site announcing "Stop Norway Whaling!" [emphasis added] FYI - the person they arrested wasn't the person they were looking for.
Why is the FBI collecting information like this about Americans? Why does this profile so closely fit the profile of Ann
Coulter's far-right fantasies?
Critics say such info has been increasingly collected by agents since the then Attorney General John Ashcroft
relaxed FBI guidelines in 2002. Yes, the same Justice Department that would not investigate the leak of a CIA agent's identity. The same Justice Department that demoted a prosecutor for looking into the activities of Jack Abramoff. This is pure ideological profiling from the John Birch Society, Richard Mellon Scaife wing of the far right here, as government policy. Remember, recently the IRS started an investigation of a church because of an anti-war sermon. And the FBI recently said that the top domestic terrorism threat is animal rights and environmental activists. That is how close we are. And there is no Congressional oversight, no accountability, and soon even the courts will be completely under Party control.
Will the right-wingers turn this into a crusade against what they perceive as the enemy within? There's nothing to
stop them.

PART of the cosmetics giant L'Oreal has been found guilty of racial discrimination after it sought to exclude non-white women
from promoting its shampoo.
In a landmark case, the Garnier division of the beauty empire, along with a recruitment agency it employed, were fined €30,000
($A50,000) each after they recruited women on the basis of race. Under the historic ruling — the first time a major company has
been found guilty of systematic race discrimination in France — a senior figure at the agency was given a three-month suspended
prison sentence.
French campaign group SOS Racisme brought the case against L'Oreal, the world's largest cosmetics company, over the campaign
in 2000. Garnier France sought saleswomen to demonstrate the shampoo line Fructis Style in supermarkets outside Paris. They
wanted young women to hand out samples and discuss hairstyling with shoppers.
In July 2000, a fax detailing the profile of hostesses sought by L'Oreal stipulated that women should be 18 to 22, size 38-42
(10-14) and "BBR" — the initials for bleu, blanc, rouge, the colours of the French flag. Prosecutors argued that BBR, a shorthand
used by the far right, was also a well-known code among employers to mean "white" French people and not those of North African,
African and Asian backgrounds.Christine Cassan, a former employee at Districom, a communications firm acting for Garnier, told the
court her clients demanded white hostesses. She said that when she had presented candidates "of colour", a superior in her own
company had said she had "had enough of Christine and her Arabs".
One woman working in the recruitment firm involved said foreign-sounding names or photos showing a candidate was of Moroccan,
Algerian, Tunisian or other African origin would ensure candidates were eliminated. Another said: "I once had a good woman
candidate but she was non-white.
I had to ask someone to
pretend that our list was full. It was hard."
One experienced candidate said she realised she was not eligible because she was of mixed race. In a normal sample of women
recruited for similar sales work, about 40 per cent would be non-white. For the Fructis project, fewer than 4 per cent were of
"non-European" origin.
SOS Racisme said hundreds of jobs had been subject to discrimination in the case. Garnier and the recruitment company were
initially acquitted last year, but the appeal court on Friday overturned the ruling. A former Garnier head and a senior recruitment
agency executive were acquitted.
Anti-racism campaigners in France hailed the ruling. Racial discrimination in employment is a huge problem in France, with a recent
survey finding three out of four companies preferred white workers.
President Nicolas Sarkozy's Justice Minister, Rachida Dati, the first woman of North African origin to hold a ministerial post, has
ruled that special departments in prosecutors' offices should be set up to deal with discrimination.
Samuel Thomas of SOS Racisme said: "This ruling is an enormous victory for everyone currently suffering race discrimination in
France. It shows that economic interests cannot be put before the law and morality. Companies here clearly thought that racism
was in their financial interest."
He said consumers of L'Oreal products in other countries would be horrified to learn about
the racial discrimination.L'Oreal said it would immediately appeal against the decision,
which it found "incomprehensible"."We believe that diversity and difference are a source
of richness and we do not tolerate any form of racism or discrimination," the statement said.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover had a plan to suspend the rules against illegal
detention and arrest up to 12,000 Americans he suspected of being disloyal, according to a newly
declassified document.
Hoover sent his plan to the White House on July 7, 1950, less than two weeks after the Korean War began.
But there is no evidence to suggest that President Truman or any subsequent president approved any part
of Hoover's proposal to house suspect Americans in military and federal prisons.
Hoover had wanted Truman to declare the mass arrests necessary to "protect the country against treason,
espionage and sabotage," The New York Times reported Saturday in a story posted on its Web site.
The plan called for the FBI to apprehend all potentially dangerous individuals whose names were on a list
Hoover had been compiling for years.
"The index now contains approximately twelve thousand individuals, of which approximately ninety-seven
percent are citizens of the United States," Hoover wrote in the now-declassified document. "In order to
make effective these apprehensions, the proclamation suspends the writ of habeas corpus."
Habeas corpus is the right to seek relief from illegal detention, and is a bedrock legal principle.
All apprehended individuals eventually would have had the right to a hearing under Hoover's plan, but
hearing boards comprised of one judge and two citizens would not have been bound by the rules of
evidence.
The details of Hoover's plan was among a collection of Cold War-era documents related to intelligence
issues from 1950-1955. The State Department declassified the documents on Friday.

The "old boy network" of socializing, talking shop, and tapping each other for favors outside the halls of government made it inevitable that the CIA and Corporate America would become allies, thus the systematic infiltration and takeover of the media..
Under the guise of 'American' objectives and lack of congressional oversight, the CIA accomplish their exploits by using every trick in the book (and they know quite a few) that they actually teach in the notorious "School of the Americas", nicknamed the "School of Dictators" and "School of Assassins" by critics. The Association for Responsible Dissent estimates that 6 million people had died by 1987 as a result of CIA covert operations, called an "American Holocaust" by former State Department official William Blum. In 1948, the CIA recreated its covert action wing called the Office of Policy Coordination with Wall Street lawyer Frank Wisner as its first director. Another early elitist who served as Director of the CIA from 1953 to 1961 was Allen Dulles, a senior partner at the Wall Street firm of Sullivan and Cromwell, which represented the Rockefeller empire and other trusts, corporations, and cartels.
Starting in the early days of the Cold War (late 40's), the CIA began a secret project called Operation
Mockingbird, with the intent of buying influence behind the scenes at major media outlets and putting reporters on the CIA payroll, which has proven to be a stunning ongoing success. The CIA effort to recruit American news organizations and journalists to become spies and disseminators of propaganda, was headed up by Frank Wisner, Allen Dulles, Richard Helms, and Philip Graham (publisher of The Washington Post). Wisner had taken Graham under his wing to direct the program code-named Operation Mockingbird and both have presumably committed suicide.
Media assets will eventually include ABC, NBC, CBS, Time, Newsweek, Associated Press, United Press
International (UPI), Reuters, Hearst Newspapers, Scripps-Howard, Copley News Service, etc. and 400
journalists, who have secretly carried out assignments according to documents on file at CIA headquarters, from intelligence-gathering to serving as go-betweens. The CIA had infiltrated the nation's businesses, media, and universities with tens of thousands of on-call operatives by the 1950's. CIA Director Dulles had staffed the CIA almost exclusively with Ivy League graduates, especially from Yale with figures like George Herbert Walker Bush from the "Skull and Crossbones" Society.

Many Americans still insist or persist in believing that we have a free press, while getting most of their news from state-controlled television, under the misconception that reporters are meant to serve the public. Reporters are paid employees and serve the media owners, who usually cower when challenged by advertisers or major government figures. Robert Parry reported the first breaking stories about Iran-Contra for Associated Press that were largely ignored by the press and congress, then moving to Newsweek he witnessed a retraction of a true story for political reasons. In 'Fooling America: A Talk by Robert Parry' he said, "The people who succeeded and did well were those who didn't stand up, who didn't write the big stories, who looked the other way when history was happening in front of them, and went along either consciously or just by cowardice with the deception of the American people."
Major networks are primarily controlled by giant corporations that are obligated by law, to put the profits of their investors ahead of all other considerations which are often in conflict with the practice of responsible journalism. There were around 50 corporations a couple of decades ago, which was considered monopolistic by many and yet today, these companies have become larger and fewer in number as the biggest ones absorb their rivals.
This concentration of ownership and power reduces the diversity of media voices, as news falls into the hands of large conglomerates with holdings in many industries that interferes in newsgathering, because of conflicts of interest. Mockingbird was an immense financial undertaking with funds flowing from the CIA largely through the Congress for Cultural Freedom (CCF) founded by Tom Braden with Pat Buchanon of CNN's Crossfire.
Media corporations share members of the board of directors with a variety of other large corporations including banks, investment companies, oil companies, health care, pharmaceutical, and technology companies. Until the 1980's, media systems were generally domestically owned, regulated, and national in scope. However, pressure from the IMF, World Bank, and US government to deregulate and privatize, the media, , and new technology resulted in a global commercial media system dominated by a small number of super-powerful transnational media corporations (mostly US based), working to advance the cause of global markets and the CIA agenda.
The first tier of the nine giant firms that dominate the world are Time Warner/AOL, Disney/ABC, Bertelsmann,
Viacom/CBS, Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation/Fox, General Electric/NBC, Sony, Universal/Seagram,
Tele-Communications, Inc. or TCI and AT&T. This is just the head of the octopus which has its second and third tier tentacles working together in unison or feigned division. This would include The Washington
Post/Newsweek, The New York Times/Weekly Standard, Tribune Co., US News, Gannett/USA Today, Dow
Jones/Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Knight-Ridder, etcetera. Journalists Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward broke the stories on Watergate (late 70's) in the Washington Post, having gained access to what the CIA was trying to keep from congress about its program of using journalists at home and abroad, in deliberate propaganda campaigns. It was later revealed that Woodward was a Naval intelligence briefer to the White House and knew many
insiders including General Alexander Haig. A high-level source told Bernstein,
"One journalist is worth twenty agents."
CFR/Trilateralist Katharine Graham, in a 1988 speech given to senior CIA employees at
Agency headquarters said,

Ralph McGehee was a CIA agent for 25 years, mainly in South-East Asia where he witnessed bombing and napalming of villages, which caused him

One of the primary reasons John F. Kennedy was assassinated had to do with the fact he dared to interfere in the framework of power. Kennedy was intent on exercising his ELECTED powers and

There were four things that filled the CIA with rage and sealed his fate; JFK fired Allen Dulles, was in the process of founding a panel
to investigate the CIA's numerous crimes, put a damper on the breadth and scope of the CIA, and limited their ability to act under National Security Memoranda 55.
There is such an overwhelming amount of information pertaining to the CIA that it is impossible to
cover it all in one book, much less an article.
Personally, I have come to the conclusion
that the media is not only influenced by
the CIA.....the media is the CIA.
Many Americans think of their supposedly free press as a
watchdog on government, mainly because the press itself
shamelessly promotes that myth.
One of the first tenets for the control of a population is to control
all sources of information the population receives and mostly
because of the pervasive CIA and Operation Mockingbird, the
mainstream American Press is a controlled multi-national
corporate/government megaphone.
They are up to their eyeballs in dirty deeds and there will never be an end to the corruption that prevails unless the CIA is abolished. Otherwise, the CIA will just keep on using their tricks of propaganda, stuffed ballot boxes, purchased elections, extortion, blackmail, drug trafficking, sexual intrigue, kidnapping, beating, torture, intimidation, economic sabotage, false stories about opponents in the local media, infiltration and disruption of opposing political parties, demolition and evacuation procedures, death squads, and politically motivated assassinations.
The CIA is the epitome of organized crime run amuck!

The CIA's secret activities, covert missions, and connections of control are all done under the pretense and
protection of national security with no accountability whatsoever, at least in their minds. Considering the public
is held accountable for everything we think, say, and do there is something seriously wrong with this picture.
The CIA is the President's secret army, who have been and continue to be conveniently above the law with
unlimited power and authority, to conduct a reign of terror around the globe.

Russian military tests new intercontinental ballistic missile

Russia's military on Tuesday successfully test-fired a new
intercontinental ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple
nuclear warheads — a weapon intended to replace aging Soviet-era
missiles.
The RS-24 missile was launched from the Plesetsk launch facility in
northern Russia and its test warheads successfully hit designated
targets on the Kura testing range on the Kamchatka Peninsula some
4,340 miles east, Strategic Missile Forces spokesman Alexander Vovk
told The Associated Press.
Vovk said that the missile carried multiple test warheads, but refused
to say how many. The Interfax news agency said the RS-24 is capable of
carrying at least three warheads.
The Strategic Missile Forces said in a statement that the missile was
launched from a mobile launcher.
It said the new missile was based on the Topol-M and built by the same
design team — Moscow's Heat Technology Institute led by Yuri
Solomonov. The RS-24 was first test-fired successfully in May. "This
missile is being created using scientific and technological solutions
from the Topol-M missile which allow to significantly reduce time and
cost of its development," the statement said.
Existing Topol-M missiles carry a single nuclear warhead and are
capable of hitting targets more than 6,000 miles away.
The Strategic Missile Forces said the RS-24 missile is designed to
replace Soviet-built missiles with multiple nuclear warheads, such as
RS-18 and RS-20. Those missiles are known in the West as the SS-19
Stiletto and the SS-18 Satan.
