Next time you screw in a cheap incandescent light bulb, ask yourself
this: Do you ride a horse to work? Still churning your own butter?

Although Mr. Edison’s invention is still in use more than a century
later, today there are brighter and thriftier alternatives including
halogen, compact fluorescent and light emitting diode bulbs.

We learned our lessons from the DX Cree light and despite of many fellows asking for
this we have intentionally delayed the availability of this custom made product to
ensure production quality matches prototypes and test samples. Now here it is, the
cool looking and energy saving LED light bulb.
.
These are pretty bright, espeically the 48 LED+ versions. All custom built with
18,000MCD emitters. This replaces just any of the regular bulbs and they start working
right away. No special adaptor, convertor, wiring or circuitry is required to use them --
 just twist them on.
.
In addition, you may know that we have previously carried LED bulbs but were withdrawn
due to reliability issues. That's about a year ago now. And between that time we have
been working on improving this brilliant idea by getting directly involved in the design
and production process. All DX bulbs are shipped pre-tested to ensure reliability and that
all emitters are working properly. These are really bright so give them a try!

 Good Energy Save Bulb
Posted by ragnarok164 on 3/20/2008
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price:
Ease of Use:
Build Quality:
Usefulness:
Overall Rating:

Pros: This is a great bulb that will save money by itself over time. I brought this based
on the good review that was here. Bright, but only at the spot where it is shining on.

Cons: -gets a little warm

-could have a bit more spill

Other Thoughts: I wonder why does LED produce that much heat. I thought they were suppose
to produce little to no heat at all. I think the LED bulbs with more LEDs die faster because
 it gets too hot.

Bottomline: Get this if you just need a certain area to have light. I don't have a multimeter
so I can't tell you how much watt this bulb eat, but I think someone mention that it use about
 3w max.

nice and cheap, worth to buy

Ultra TV-B-Gone - 20 IR LEDs + 9V = 90 ft range!

Here's our next TV-B-Gone mod, bam! "This TV-B-Gone uses a 9V battery to send its signal through a matrix of 20 IR LEDS.
This extends the working range of the device to about 90ft (line of sight). Using this in a regular sized room you are
pretty much guaranteed to kill the TV no matter where you point it." - Link.

The Last Supper - made from 20,736 spools of thread

The Last Supper - made from 20,736 spools of thread looks amazing - "...a life sized rendering of Leonardo da Vinci's
The Last Supper constructed from 20,736 spools of thread strung onto aluminum ball chain. When seen with the aid of
optical devices, the spools of thread coalesce into realistic images of Christ and his disciples... When seen with
the naked eye, the spools of thread appear as an abstract arrangement of multi-colored blocks/3D pixels, further
abstracted by the fact that The Last Supper imagery is upside down and backwards." [via] - Link.

Nixie-1 complete

The Photon's Nixie clock that we have followed over the last few weeks is done done done, nice work! - "After nearly three
months since the beginning of the project the clock is complete. It uses four GNP-17A tubes for the main hours and minutes
display, and two IN-16 tubes for the seconds. The case is made from African Padauk with much sanding, cleaning, and coated
with Polyurethane varnish all over. After a few months it will be time to start on Nixie-2." - Link.

Talon Sword War Robot
These 100-pound robots will soon be sent to Iraq with their own weapons. Because the robot is more stable than a human hand, a soldier can remotely aim a Talons gun more accurately than he could his own rifle. Talons, which are fast and durable, have been in military use since 2000, when they disposed of live ammo in Bosnia. In Iraq, a Talon was blown off a Humvee into a river, and then driven back to dry land

R-Gator
Why not let the robot drive? The military version of John Deeres Gator utility vehicle is used to transport equipment on the battlefield. iRobot installed equipment that turns the widely-used vehicle into an autonomous robot--at a low cost. It can be controlled at a distance, or operate autonomously to conduct patrols, carry ammo or dispose of hazardous waste. Pilot production begins this year, with full production in 2006.

Robocopter
Could wars be fought with tiny, nimble helicopters? MIT aeronauticist Eric Feron became fascinated with radio-controlled helicopters, and was inspired to design this small, autonomous helicopter that is capable of incredible airborne acrobatics. The project is being funded by the Navy.

Bionic Knee
The current war in Iraq has an amputation rate that is twice that of previous conflicts. This bionic knee sprang from work by Hugh Herr, a roboticist at MITs Media Lab. Herr's devices are being tested at Brown University under a .2 million grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Thanks to a chip that reads nerve signals sent to the muscles that remain, the new robotic leg can be made to not only walk normally, but also to climb stairs. A commercial version of the knee, called the Rheo Knee and made by Icelands Ossur Thearpeutics, hit the U.S. market on Feb. 1.

New research predicts that the Wi-Fi hotspots market is in danger from predicted increases in data card sales.

The Infonetics Research report Mobility: Broadband, Phones, Subscribers and Services predicts that the data card market is set to quadruple
in size between 2007 and 2011, and that it's set to hit around 144 million subscribers by 2011.

Mass market adoption imminent
Richard Webb, directing analyst for WiMAX, Wi-Fi and mobile at Infonetics Research, claims: "The mobile data services market is becoming more
competitive, as mobile operators try to recoup their investments in 3G networks, and drive up flattening ARPU [average revenue per user]."

Advertisement"Currently, mobile data services are generally too expensive for mass market adoption, but that will change with the increasingly
extensive roll-out of high-speed HSDPA [High-Speed Downlink Packet Access], the launch of new data plans offering increased download limits,
and better subsidies for mobile data cards," he added.

It is looking increasingly likely that Wi-Fi hotspots are soon going to be outdated and seen as 'the telephone boxes of the broadband era'.
