Cameras that mount on guns are not new, but this particular model will be deployed for tests over the next few months within the Orange County's sheriff's emergency service team and the Newburgh Police Department. According to WREX-TV, the president of the city of Newburgh's police union doubts that the officers will be happy about  the new system. Newburgh is looking to become the first police force in the country to use the new cameras, and police and city officials hope it can help cool relations between police and residents. About the PistolCam The PistolCam is a new device being marketed by Legend Technologies, a company based in Keesville, near Plattsburgh. Last week, civil rights attorney Michael Sussman issued a report detailing suggestions for improved police-community relations. Sussman's report called for dashboard cameras in every police squad car, and came after a series of public meetings on police brutality sponsored by his Democratic Alliance, the local NAACP and Newburgh's Black Ministerial Fellowship. Police Chief Eric Paolilli said he supported cameras as a way to resolve complaints against officers. But he has suggested shoulder-mounted mini-cameras that would go with officers on foot chases and on the thousands of calls each year that take police from their cars. Paolilli has included a request for shoulder-cameras in his 2008 budget. Terry Gordon, the inventor of the PistolCam and the founder of Legend Technologies, said his device works best in conjunction with other types of cameras — not in place of them. You don't want police pulling their weapon solely as way of videotaping a heated incident, Gordon said. The PistolCam is a great training aid, he said, and a way of judging whether an officer's use of his gun was justified — after the event. Friday, March 04, 2005  http://www.art-for-a-change.com/blog/archive/2005_03_01_archive.html Body Worlds Corpse Factory                                                                                               This past January 29, 2005, I wrote about Body Worlds being one of the most popular exhibits ever to have been presented at The California Science Center in Los Angeles' Exposition Park. Body Worlds is hailed as art by some, and was conceived by Gunther von Hagens. His "artwork" consists of actual human bodies that have been injected with molten plastic - preserving the corpses so that they can be displayed in various poses. In my aforementioned article concerning the ongoing exhibit, I thought the allegations that von Hagens used executed Chinese prisoners as fodder for his plastination technique would be hard to top, but it seems I was wrong. Now Gunther von Hagens is embroiled in a new outrage - and one has to wonder just how much people will take before finally turning their backs on his so-called art. Von Hagens has publicized plans to construct a factory in Poland to mass-produce plasticized bodies. He has obtained land in the Polish town of Sieniawa Zarska near the German border, and the factory building there will employ up to 300 people. Von Hagens's father, Gerhard Liebchen, has been working in the town as the spokesperson for his son's business, The Institute of Plastination, trying to convince the community of the economic advantages of such an operation. The indignation around von Hagen's plans boiled over when Polish and German press reports surfaced that his 88 year-old father is suspected of having committed crimes against Poles in World War II as a member of the Nazi SS. The German magazine Der Spiegel published in its March issue that Von Hagens' father "appeared to have been actively involved" in the SS while deployed in Poland, and helped to transport 60 Poles to their doom. The magazine even published a list of the unfortunate victims. A Polish state institute has been established to investigate his participation in genocide. On March 1st, following the accusations, von Hagens stated that "I have only learned of these accusations, including the suggestion that my father was in the SS, in the last few days." But he also announced his father would no longer be representing the Institute of Plastination, or have anything to do with the setting up a "body preparation" center in Poland. "It is essential for me that my company be free from any suspicion," von Hagens said in a public statement. Skinning the Surface  September 29th, 2008               Wim Delvoye is an artist widely known for his collection of tattooed pigs, which he personally raises on a farm in China. Also known for the Cloaca Machine, a digestion system that produces excrements out of food, the Belgian artist has caused further controversy in this year’s major art fairs. The organizers of ShContemporary, Shanghai’s much anticipated contemporary art fair, have banned the Belgian artist’s planned exhibition of tattooed pigs. Workers at the fair dismantled the sty that would have held eight pigs, tattooed with the Louis Vuitton logo and Walt Disney characters. Delvoye, who made headlines just recently when he sold a tattoo on another man’s back, bred the pigs on a farm outside Beijing, tattooing them young and letting the images stretch as they grew. The hides are sold for up to €7,500 ($10,600) a piece. In February, two bags made from one of his hides, marked with Disney characters, were exhibited at Chanel’s Mobile Art exhibition in Hong Kong. Delvoye has been tattooing pigs since the 90s. The Tattooed Pigs project was set up in the Art Farm in China, where there are fewer strictures regarding animal welfare than in most parts of the Western world. For his subjects, Delvoye selects classic and contemporary icons of perfectionism, and symbols for the highest human standards. In his work, Delvoye questions the paradigm of the 20th century, when the artist became the creator of a new subjective world with the distortions he consciously and unconsciously makes to the image of nature. Delvoye places the human body in the center of his work. From the Cloaca Machine, which mocks the human digestion, as well as the tattooed pigskins, which resemble the human skin. More frequently, however, Mingus sets aside this implosive formalism - which harks back  to Rosenquist & Rauschenberg, and even farther to the Jazzy figural tropes of Montparnasse Cubists like Gleizes & Marcoussis and Cubo Futurists like Severini & Malevich - in favor of a more pictorially coherent depiction. This coherency, is the coherency of the collage aesthetic; it may suggest the veristic rendition of earlier aesthetics, but in fact subverts that rendition with its jumps in context and superposition of contexts. The jocular "Junior bird man" gesture which Pope John Pall II flashes at photographers not long after his ascendance makes no "sense" ironic or otherwise, juxtaposed with  a picture of a chimpanzee, playing "ring toss" and feeding a porpoise against a noon time desert ]

The 20th Century has been a volatile and vastly variable epoch. It's myriad social, political and cultural currents and countercurrents - it's ever increasing expansion of the 19th Century dialectic into manifold  polylectics - seem almost to cancel out one and another, leaving entropy as the net result. Nevertheless, if one seeks not to summarize such an array of concepts and manifestations, the real nature of the century comes forward. The aggregate character of the last 80-odd years is not just unhomogenizable, it is anti-homogeneous. The 20th Century is marked above all by variety, dissonance and the coexistence of what are in fact mutually insupportable factors. Embodying this as an overriding aesthetic for our century is the method of composition and communication variously called collage, montage, and nonsequitur. No matter the form or medium of communication, this mode relies on disjuncture, rhythmic displacement, and the confounding of expectation. Rules of verbal structure and narrative context are undermined and broken  outright in modern literature; the sequencing of events in drama and dance are reconsidered & reconstituted; tonal harmonic relationships in music are destabilized and realigned; images in visual art are formulated discontinuously & assume coherency in no previously logical way. Basic perceptions and societal presumptions have thus been challenged constantly since the century  began. This collage aesthetic predominated in the most remarkable and influential art of the early 20th  Century expressly to challenge (and even pre-empt) the linear, progressive certainties on which earlier social concepts were predicated. Since the last world war the collage aesthetic has come to shape not just art, but most aspects of communication, as montage-intensive media like cinema and radio have established themselves and as montage-intensive formats like television have emerged to supersede even those. Given this virtual redefinition of our society (most especially if "society" can be defined as a civilization's common, or even communal self-perceptions) according to a grammar of fracture and disjuncture, the importance of a collage aesthetic is self evident. Indeed, it would not be unfair to regard the work of any modern, particularly postwar, artist as either confirming or denying, celebrating or contradicting, the collage aesthetic. It would be wrong to fault those artist whose homogeneity of image and method argues against the prevailing collage mode; in emphasizing internal contradiction the collage aesthetic even incorporates the supposedly  contradictory idea of purity - overriding, however, any universal implication to which that idea might pretend proposing instead a kind of "purity for awhile," as if the function of the purity concept were to propose a (periodic cleansing). As such those artists who preach or practice coherence, uniformity, and singularity of form, subject, or concept, play an important role - almost a religious one - in the function of today's collage aesthetic. Even so, those artists who consciously practice embodiments of the collage aesthetic are the ones who speak directly to the current condition of Western civilization. Whether they reify, criticize or parody  this condition they concern themselves with actualities and probabilities drawn from there given  environment. He thus forces these images to relate according  to traditional pictorial practices - or, conversely, he implies the obsolescence of such practices by having them support a kind of visual free-association gibberish. Interestingly, Mingus does not present these embodiments of the collage aesthetic as actual collages; he paints and draws - freehand - from collages he constructs temporarily, destroying or filing them away  afterward with no thought to them as artworks in and of themselves. This process of re-rendering does create a homogeneous texture which serves through contrast to  enhance the dissonance that exists between the images themselves. He collected these samples by applying tape to his arm where he felt them biting him.  He lives in a basement  apartment.  There is a drain outside that has water standing in it sometimes.  He has taken his dog to the vet and they can’t find anything. He has also used every cream and spray known to man.  This has been going on for about a month.  It seems that when he sprays or fogs, he gets one or two days where things aren’t that bad, but no lasting relief.    I have done so much research online and the only bug I can find that  resembles this ugly thing is a Midge.  The weird thing is we are in the US, and midges are normally in  Scotland around bodies of water.  They have wings and the females bite. We have contacted a bug scientist but his Microscope is not powerful enough to see the bug on the samples he gave him.
