encryptedreality0 — February 06, 2011 — Embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak could have amassed huge sums of money as much as 70 billion dollars during the decades that he has been a top official.According to analyses by Middle East experts, Mubarak has taken much of the gains overseas and deposited much of his wealth in secret bank accounts in British and Swiss banks, The Guardian reported on Friday.Observers say the Mubaraks have also invested in real estate in London, New York, Los Angeles and along expensive tracts of the Red Sea coast.Thirty years in presidential office has helped Mubarak have access to investment deals that have generated hundreds of millions  of pounds in profits.Amaney Jamal, a political science professor at Princeton University, said the estimate of $40bn-70bn was comparable with the vast wealth of leaders in other Persian Gulf countries."The business ventures from his military and government service accumulated to his personal wealth," she said."There was a lot of  corruption in this regime and stifling of public resources for personal gain," she added."This is the pattern of other Middle Eastern dictators so their wealth will not be  taken during a transition. These leaders plan on this," the professor opined.Mubarak's sons Gamal and Alaa are said to be billionaires as well, with posh homes in London. You see Mubarak being the sole leader had to have a stake in everything that happens in the country to keep it under control. Right or wrong is immaterial as to govern a system without delegates you have to have some sort of control and sanction on all the enterprise and business that goes on. Mubarak with the military behind him was the ultimate authority. The problem with the system as you see is that there is no avenue to reroute the wealth back to the people. In the democratic model you have government then public and private enterprise with delegates on top levels some of whom are elected. This way the government gets a cut from everything legal and seizes everything illegal. The various levels are subject to licensing and control by the few delegates. But the problem with this model is that it must always be profitable to exist so it has to exploit others and their resource to keep it self alive - almost like a parasite. For the unelected like bankers, corporation CEOs and military chiefs who hold a majority of the power working to their advantage is legal in the system as the government gets a cut. The public gets exploited by higher oil and food prices and conflict for profit in other countries to secure the lifestyle of the government.
