KAREN CHAPMAN
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Karen attended painting and life drawing classes at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Later, during her time at university in the Midwest, she studied sculpture with Burton Blistien. Since moving to Haddington several years ago she has mainly worked in acrylic.
She is interested in the connection between exterior and, personal, interior landscape. Not the immediate image but the remembered – dreamed – changed – image. Unconcerned with creating an immediate impact she hopes the viewer will gradually be drawn into a changing world picture.
A past winner of the Peter Potter Open Juried Competition Karen has had paintings accepted by the North Ayrshire Council. Her work has also been selected by the RSW (The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour). In the Autumn of 2001 she had her first solo exhibition at the Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh. In May 2004 she had a one person show at the Loretto Gallery.
During the last couple of years she has started exhibiting in the USA. In October 2005 her work will be included in the opening show at the Living Theater’s new arts complex in mid-town Manhattan.
Galleries that have exhibited her work include:

The Peter Potter Gallery East Lothian

I will continue to research and collect data, as all the projected costs in this outline are subject to change until a contract is signed with a printer. And as the demand on various printers work-shops is subject to change with availability. The venture will require a carefully planned and coordinated advertising campaign, focusing on the trade print, selective TV advertising, telemarketing and a public relations program aimed at the collector of high quality prints and the modern art public. Frequently Asked Questions About Art Reproductions and Prints
Our most frequently asked questions are about the technical differences between various types of art prints and reproductions. In addition to our limited and fluctuating inventory of original paintings, our studio is proud to offer a large selection of unique images.
One reason this is possible is due to the recent modern innovations in the production of prints - or to be precise, reproductions.
Now, to be cost effective, we can produce one or two at a time from digital files instead of having to publish hundreds. Every one of our prints is authorized, produced, and approved by us, & the artists.
To help people understand these technical differences, we offer below some terms that we hope will explain further: Art Definitions
GICLEE Giclay (zee-clay) is French for "sprayed ink". It is the most modern method of art reproduction. An original painting is digitally captured with a high resolution camera called a "Phase One" and then transferred to a computer with special color management software.
Then a very large inkjet printer sprays the UV stable, pigmented inks on the artist's choice of media (in our case, hand made paper or traditional, stretched canvas). The resulting continuous tone, intense color is unparalleled.
ORIGINAL PAINTING This is the original artist's handmade interpretation as a "one of a kind" work of art. In the _____ _______ case of the original paintings, are oil paint on streached canvas or pane or works done with acrylic latex formulas or oil pain on portrait grade stretched canvas. Or Water Color on 100% acid free hand made artist paper or polymer treated clay cote cover stock.
ORIGINAL PRINT OR SERIGRAPH (Hand Masked “Silk“ Screen) This is a genuine, traditional print created by the artist or an assistant, by hand, using a classic stencil process.
LITHOGRAPHIC REPRODUCTIONS
Handmade traditional acid etched lithograph stone print.
Or a non traditional lithograph print.
Also called Photomechanical reproduction or Photo-Lithography. The original art is photographed, separated into 4 colors, and printed on paper by an offset lithography machine press. Examined closely you can see the tiny dot patterns of the four colors.
POLYCHROME PRINT (Photo) The subject is digitally captured, tweaked in the computer, then chemically printed on emulsion enhanced paper. The continuous tone color is saturated and accurate.
OPEN EDITION PRINT Prints and reproductions are published either as a limited edition of a preset quantity, or, an open edition with no predetermined number.
NOTE:
To motivate the highly competitive individual art dealer and distributor, We will offer up to 40% commission & / or discount for quantity sales to the interior decoration trade, cooperate collection packages and other high quantity sales.
I feel the strongest target markets for the editions are in the U.S.A.: California, New York, Washington DC Florida Canada: - etc.
