Manhole Cover Throw Rugs

There's no definite reason why sewer entrances have to be covered with round metal discs and yet they are the
world over, and those of us at Gizmodo with keen interests in all things urban are endlessly fascinated by
how manhole coverdesigns differ from city to city, country to country. The Japanese approach it as art, but we
 also appreciate the utilitarian good looks of these rugs, patterned after the manhole covers of large US cities
 and London. Each one is 24", nylon flocked and made of 100% recycled truck tires, guaranteed to look good indoors
or out whether you live in the city or the suburbs.

Arent they round because a circular shape cant pass through a hole with the same diameter as itself.
In otherwords, a round cover cant fall through the round hole...but a square cover can be turned
in such a way it can pass through its square hole...square peg round hole...OH NO, Ive gone crosseyed....

Speedie is correct from what I've heard. The other reason they are round is because
they are heavy, and rolling them is a lot easier for a worker to do than dragging or picking them up.

The lip edge the cover sits on is much smaller than the cover, so a square one or a triangle one wouldn't fall in either.
they are round because in the old days, a round pipe had (still has?) more lateral strength against the movements of the
earth, whereas a sqare is strong in the corners, but weaker along the flat sides.
 the movement of the earth will eventually crack a square pipe, but the physics of
 a round structure can take the added compression. see acquaducts, suspension bridges
 sports domes, and vw beetles as examples of round structures designed to be strong.

no, even if its turned diagonally, it still won't fall in. it's simple arithmetic to size the lip under the
lid where it can't fall. think the lid is like 3' by 3' and the hole under the lid is 2' by 2'.

cannot be dropped down the manhole. So for safety and practicality, all manhole covers should be round.

Answer: The man had hiccups. The barman recognized this from his speech and drew the gun in order to

Taking Issue with So-Called Exemptions from Executive Orders

Executive Orders (EOs), unless they specifically exempt someone, apply to everyone in the Executive Branch. 
So how is it that the plainly worded language of an EO get ignored by both the President and the Vice President?
