WITH ALL THIS KNOWN SINCE 1977,
HOW CAN WE ASSUME THAT ANYTHING THE MEDIA TELLS US CAN BE TAKEN AT FACE VALUE?  -gg

excerpts (not necessarily in original order):
THE AGENCY’S DEALINGS WITH THE PRESS BEGAN during the earliest stages of the Cold War.

"One journalist is worth twenty agents. He has access, the ability to ask questions without arousing suspicion."

In 1953, Joseph Alsop, then one of America’s leading syndicated columnists, went to the Philippines to cover an election. He did not go because he was asked to do so by his syndicate. He did not go because he was asked to do so by the newspapers that printed his column.  He went at the request of the CIA.  (CIA has been described as "Wall Street's own paramilitary police force".  In the hyper-capitalist USA, where founding democratic principles take a back seat to profit and power, this view of CIA is accurate.)

Alsop is one of more than 400 American journalists who in the past twenty-five years have secretly carried out assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency, according to documents on file at CIA headquarters.  (Those officials most knowledgeable about the subject say that a figure of 400 American journalists is on the low side of the actual number who maintained covert relationships and undertook clandestine tasks.)  Some of these journalists’ relationships with the Agency were tacit; some were explicit. There was cooperation, accommodation and overlap. Journalists provided a full range of clandestine services—from simple intelligence gathering to serving as go-betweens with spies in Communist countries. Reporters shared their notebooks with the CIA.  Editors shared their staffs. Some of the journalists were Pulitzer Prize winners, distinguished reporters who considered themselves ambassadors without-portfolio for their country. Most were less exalted: foreign correspondents who found that their association with the Agency helped their work; stringers and freelancers who were as interested in the derring-do of the spy business as in filing articles; and, the smallest category, full-time CIA employees masquerading as journalists abroad. In many instances, CIA documents show, journalists were engaged to perform tasks for the CIA with the consent of the managements of America’s leading news organizations.

The history of the CIA’s involvement with the American press continues to be shrouded by an official policy of obfuscation and deception for the following principal reasons:
¦ The use of journalists has been among the most productive means of intelligence-gathering employed by the CIA. Although the Agency has cut back sharply (really?) on the use of reporters since 1973 (primarily as a result of pressure from the media), some journalist-operatives are still posted abroad.  (see below, they were ramped up again by the 90's)
¦ Further investigation into the matter, CIA officials say, would inevitably reveal a series of embarrassing relationships in the 1950s and 1960s with some of the most powerful organizations and individuals in American journalism.

Among the executives who lent their cooperation to the Agency were Williarn Paley of the Columbia Broadcasting System, Henry Luce of Time Inc., Arthur Hays Sulzberger of the New York Times, Barry Bingham Sr. of the LouisviIle Courier-Journal, and James Copley of the Copley News Service (cited by Birch wingnut Gary Allen as a source).  Other organizations which cooperated with the CIA include the American Broadcasting Company, the National Broadcasting Company, the Associated Press, United Press International, Reuters, Hearst Newspapers, Scripps-Howard, Newsweek magazine, the Mutual Broadcasting System, the Miami Herald and the old Saturday Evening Post and New York Herald-Tribune.  (also, Readers' Digest, Ladies Home Journal, and a host of other family publications)

By far the most valuable of these associations, according to CIA officials, have been with the New York Times, CBS and Time Inc.
In most instances, Agency files show, officials at the highest levels of the CIA (usually director or deputy director) dealt personally with a single designated individual in the top management of the cooperating news organization.

Time and Newsweek magazines. According to CIA and Senate sources, Agency files contain written agreements with former foreign correspondents and stringers for both the weekly news magazines.  The same sources refused to say whether the CIA has ended all its associations with individuals who work for the two publications. Allen Dulles often interceded with his good friend, the late Henry Luce, founder of Time and Life magazines, who readily allowed certain members of his staff to work for the Agency and agreed to provide jobs and credentials for other CIA operatives who lacked journalistic experience.

During the 1976 investigation of the CIA by the Senate Intelligence Committee, chaired by Senator Frank Church, the dimensions of the Agency’s involvement with the press became apparent to several members of the panel, as well as to two or three investigators on the staff. But top officials of the CIA, including former directors William Colby and George Bush, persuaded the committee to restrict its inquiry into the matter and to deliberately misrepresent the actual scope of the activities in its final report.

... contrary to the notion that the CIA insidiously infiltrated the journalistic community, there is ample evidence that America’s leading publishers and news executives allowed themselves and their organizations to become handmaidens to the intelligence services.  “Let’s not pick on some poor reporters, for God’s sake,” (fmr CIA Director) William Colby exclaimed at one point to the Church committee’s investigators. “Let’s go to the managements. They were witting.”

James Angleton, who was recently removed as the Agency’s head of counterintelligence operations, ran a completely independent group of journalist-operatives who performed sensitive and frequently dangerous assignments; little is known about this group for the simple reason that Angleton deliberately kept only the vaguest of files.

Columnists and commentators. There are perhaps a dozen well known columnists and broadcast commentators whose relationships with the CIA go far beyond those normally maintained between reporters and their sources. They are referred to at the Agency as “known assets” and can be counted on to perform a variety of undercover tasks; they are considered receptive to the Agency’s point of view on various subjects.  "The Founding Fathers [of the CIA] were close personal friends of ours.  Dick Bissell [former CIA deputy director] was my oldest friend, from childhood."

... at least twenty-three Copley News Service employees performed work for the CIA ... Copley owns nine newspapers in California and Illinois—among them the San Diego Union and Evening Tribune.

Paley’s (CBS) designated contact for the Agency was Sig Mickelson, president of CBS News between 1954 and 1961.  Mickelson is now president of Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, both of which were associated with the CIA for many years.

"It was widely known that Phil Graham (owner of the Washington Post, brother of Sen. Bob Graham of Florida) was somebody you could get help from," said a former deputy director of the Agency. "Frank Wisner dealt with him."  Wisner, deputy director of the CIA from 1950 until shortly before his suicide in 1965, was the Agency's premier orchestrator of "black" operations, including many in which journalists were involved. Wisner liked to boast of his "mighty Wurlitzer," a wondrous propaganda instrument he built, and played, with help from the press.  Phil Graham was probably Wisner's closest friend.

(After Graham's suicide, his wife Katherine took over operations.  At some point, she held conferences with a CIA audience, where she told them that keeping the public in the dark was a good thing for America.  Katherine Graham also provided financial and PR assistance to arch-feminist Gloria Steinem and Ms. Magazine.  Gloria Steinem was later outed by a legitimate feminist group called "Red Stockings" as a CIA operative in Europe. CIA reports with Steinem's name on top later surfaced.)

In 1964 and 1965, Salant served on a super-secret CIA task force which explored methods of beaming American propaganda broadcasts to the People's Republic of China. The other members of the four-man study team were Zbigniew Brzezinski, then a professor at Columbia University; William Griffith, then professor of political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and John Haves, then vice-president of the Washington Post Company for radio-TV5. The principal government officials associated with the project were Cord Meyer of the CIA; McGeorge Bundy, then special assistant to the president for national security (later head of the "liberal" Ford Foundation); Leonard Marks, then director of the USIA; and Bill Moyers, then special assistant to President Lyndon Johnson and now a CBS correspondent.

Like many CIA sources, this official said that the only way to end the uncertainties about aid furnished the Agency by journalists is to disclose the contents of the CIA files—a course opposed by almost all of the thirty-five present and former CIA officials interviewed over the course of a year.  According to an unpublished report by the House Select Committee on Intelligence, chaired by Representative Otis Pike, at least fifteen news organizations were still providing cover for CIA operatives as of 1976.

After Colby left the Agency on January 28th, 1976, and was succeeded by George Bush, the CIA announced a new policy: “Effective immediately, the CIA will not enter into any paid or contractual relationship with any full-time or part-time news correspondent accredited by any U.S. news service, newspaper, periodical, radio or television network or station” At the time of the announcement, the Agency acknowledged that the policy would result in termination of less than half of the relationships with the 50 U.S. journalists it said were still affiliated with the Agency. The text of the announcement noted that the CIA would continue to “welcome” the voluntary, unpaid cooperation of journalists. Thus, many relationships were permitted to remain intact.

DESPITE THE EVIDENCE OF WIDESPREAD CIA USE OF journalists, the Senate Intelligence Committee and its staff decided against questioning any of the reporters, editors, publishers or broadcast executives whose relationships with the Agency are detailed in CIA files.  According to sources in the Senate and the Agency, the use of journalists was one of two areas of inquiry which the CIA went to extraordinary lengths to curtail.  The other was the Agency’s continuing and extensive use of academics for recruitment and information gathering purposes.

Some members of the Church committee and staff feared that Agency officials had gained control of the inquiry and that they were being hoodwinked. “The Agency was extremely clever about it and the committee played right into its hands,” said one congressional source familiar with all aspects of the inquiry. “Church and some of the other members were much more interested in making headlines than in doing serious, tough investigating. The Agency pretended to be giving up a lot whenever it was asked about the flashy stuff — assassinations and secret weapons and James Bond operations. Then, when it came to things that they didn’t want to give away, that were much more important to the Agency, Colby in particular called in his chits. And the committee bought it.”

The Senate committee’s investigation into the use of journalists was supervised by William B. Bader, a former CIA intelligence officer who returned briefly to the Agency this year as deputy to CIA director Stansfield Turner and is now a high-level intelligence official at the Defense Department. Bader was assisted by David Aaron, who now serves as the deputy to Zbigniew Brzezinski, President Carter’s national security adviser.

(CIA Director) Bush agreed to order a search of the files and have those records pulled which deals with operations where journalists had been used. But the raw files could not he made available to Bader or the committee, Bush insisted. Instead, the director decided, his deputies would condense the material into one-paragraph summaries describing in the most general terms the activities of each individual journalist. Most important, Bush decreed, the names of journalists and of the news organizations with which they were affiliated would be omitted from the summaries.

Bader and others to whom he described the contents of the summaries immediately reached some general conclusions: the sheer number of covert relationships with journalists was far greater than the CIA had ever hinted; and the Agency’s use of reporters and news executives was an intelligence asset of the first magnitude. Reporters had been involved in almost every conceivable kind of operation. Of the 400-plus individuals whose activities were summarized, between 200 and 250 were “working journalists” in the usual sense of the term—reporters, editors, correspondents, photographers; the rest were employed at least nominally) by book publishers, trade publications and newsletters.

Still, the summaries were just that: compressed, vague, sketchy, incomplete. They could be subject to ambiguous interpretation. And they contained no suggestion that the CIA had abused its authority by manipulating the editorial content of American newspapers or broadcast reports.

...attempted to get more information from the CIA, particularly about the Agency’s current relationships with journalists. He encountered a stone wall. “Bush has done nothing to date,” Bader told associates. “None of the important operations are affected in even a marginal way.” The CIA also refused the staffs requests for more information on the use of academics. Bush began to urge members of the committee to curtail its inquiries in both areas and conceal its findings in the final report. “He kept saying, ‘Don’t fuck these guys in the press and on the campuses,’ pleading that they were the only areas of public life with any credibility left,” reported a Senate source.  “The danger of exposure is not the other side,” explained one CIA expert in covert operations. “This is not stuff the other side doesn’t know about. The concern of the Agency is that another area of cover will be denied.”

A senator who was the object of the Agency’s lobbying later said: “From the CIA point of view this was the highest, most sensitive covert program of all.... It was a much larger part of the operational system than has been indicated.” He added, “I had a great compulsion to press the point but it was late .... If we had demanded, they would have gone the legal route to fight it.”

... reached a decision not to pursue the matter further. No journalists would be interviewed about their dealings with the Agency—either by the staff or by the senators, in secret or in open session.

“gray area” in which there were no moral absolutes. Had the CIA “manipulated” the press in the classic sense of the term? Probably not, (ex-CIA) Bader concluded; the major news organizations and their executives had willingly lent their resources to the Agency; foreign correspondents had regarded work for the CIA as a national service and a way of getting better stories and climbing to the top of their profession. Had the CIA abused its authority? It had dealt with the press almost exactly as it had dealt with other institutions from which it sought cover — the diplomatic service, academia, corporations. There was nothing in the CIA’s charter which declared any of these institutions off-limits to America’s intelligence service. And, in the case of the press, the Agency had exercised more care in its dealings than with many other institutions; it had gone to considerable lengths to restrict its role to information-gathering and cover.

... concerned that his knowledge was so heavily based on information furnished by the CIA; he hadn’t gotten the other side of the story from those journalists who had associated with the Agency. He could be seeing only “the lantern show,” he told associates. [...] “It was smart of the Agency to cooperate to the extent of showing the material to Bader,” observed a committee source. “That way, if one fine day a file popped up, the Agency would be covered. They could say they had already informed the Congress.” [...] It was possible that CIA case officers had written self-serving memos for the files about their dealings with journalists, that the CIA was just as subject to common bureaucratic “cover-your-ass” paperwork as any other agency of government.

Bader’s findings on the subject were never discussed with the full committee, even in executive session. [...] At the slightest sign of a leak the CIA might cut off the flow of sensitive information as it did, several times in other areas), claiming that the committee could not be trusted with secrets. “It was as if we were on trial—not the CIA,”  [...] would result in heavy pressure on the CIA to end its use of journalists altogether. “We just weren’t ready to take that step,” said a senator. A similar decision was made to conceal the results of the staff’s inquiry into the use of academics.  “It hardly reflects what we found,” stated Senator Gary Hart. “There was a prolonged and elaborate negotiation [with the CIA] over what would be said.”

Obscuring the facts was relatively simple. No mention was made of the 400 summaries or what they showed. Instead the report noted blandly that some fifty recent contacts with journalists had been studied by the committee staff—thus conveying the impression that the Agency’s dealings with the press had been limited to those instances. The Agency files, the report noted, contained little evidence that the editorial content of American news reports had been affected by the CIA’s dealings with journalists. Colby’s misleading public statements about the use of journalists were repeated without serious contradiction or elaboration. The role of cooperating news executives was given short shrift. The fact that the Agency had concentrated its relationships in the most prominent sectors of the press went unmentioned. That the CIA continued to regard the press as up for grabs was not even suggested.

WITH ALL THIS KNOWN SINCE 1977, HOW CAN WE ASSUME THAT ANYTHING THE MEDIA TELLS US ABOUT WAR OR SEPTEMBER 11 OR ANYTHING ELSE CAN BE TAKEN AT FACE VALUE?  THOSE REPORTERS AND EXECUTIVES, WHO FORMERLY WHORED THEMSELVES AND THEIR BUSINESSES FOR THE CIA AND IT'S DISINFORMATION CAMPAIGNS, HAVE REFORMED THEMSELVES??!!  (See the CIA's Public Affairs Office 1991 report below.)

CNN-Time-Warner  CEO, prior to working for NY law firm (below), was counsel for Nelson Rockefeller and a senior White House aide under President Gerald Ford.  Ford was on the JFK coverup Warren Commission.  (Two unusual prominent Americans served on the Warren Commission, "investigating" the murder of JFK, and concluding it was a lone gunman.  One was former CIA Director Allen Dulles, who was fired after he clashed with Kennedy on a full-scale invasion of Cuba.  Another was Congressman Gerald Ford (MUST SEE photorama local copy), a close buddy of Nixon with far-right connections, with both linked to the CIA.)
Chief Exec VP and Gen Counsel was Associate Deputy Attorney General at the US Dept of Justice, and formerly law clerk for Scalia.  CNN is interwoven with the government and the most secretive of intelligence agencies, CIA's cousin NSA ("no such agency", National Security Administration).

Anderson Cooper, CIA Operative?  His background is very similar to many CIA ops.  CIA recruited him, but he 'declined' and went on to CNN.

CBS/Viacom is run by Sumner M. Redstone, Harvard University School of Law in 1947, served in the Military Intelligence Division during World War II, and apparent ties to OSS/CIA figures.  Prescott Bush also once held a controlling interest in CBS.  CBS is pretty obviously CIA.

ABC was bought by Capital Cities a firm created to acquire media, associated with CIA and run by former CIA director Wm. Casey.  Cap Cities purchased ABC.  Walt Disney was a former Nazi symp.  Yes children, Mickey Mouse's daddy was a fascist.  Disney merged with Capital Cities/ABC on July 31, 1995, with Disney in nominal control. ABC is CIA.

PBS is a little more problematic to state clearly.  Not directly Intelligence but it's former CEO Pat Mitchell is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (which is a privately-held business entity that acts like a staffing house for all three branches of govt and intelligence, as well as media), she was on the White House Project Advisory Board under Clinton, and a special correspondent, past president of CNN Productions and Time, Inc., exec for Ted Turner, worked for ABC, CBS, NBC, all the major media, was on the boards of Bank of America (tied to BCCI scandal, Pakistani BCCI was set to illegally purchase Bank of America), and Sun Microsystems (supplier to CIA, NSA, DoD).  She resigned in March 2006 and was replaced by the current CEO, Paula Kerger.

Al Jazeera: The Rupert Murdoch Fox News Of The Middle East?  It is probably no coincidence that a useless video of old Osama bin Laden reruns mysteriously appeared on Al Jazeera ... my basic perception of Al Jazeera as yet another right wing mega media corporation controlled by the opinions and interests of international right wing rulling elite as well as the Emir of Qatar with his ties to the Bush Regime remains.  (HO!!!   The Emir of Qatar also gladly hosted Osama when he "fled" from Sudan to Afghanistan on a C-130 with a huge entourage of friends.)

Fox -- no need to say -- "After this embarrassment (public exposure of the CIA and Right Wing media control), it was necessary for the Right to use its own private network to replace Operation Mockingbird. As a result, there is now the Cato Institute, with Media Mogul Rupert Murdoch (Fox, NY Post, TV Guide) on the Board with ATT/TCI's Malone.  Fox may not be CIA directly, but close enough.  Fox emerged from multi-millionaire right wing Foundation Grants and "investments".  Fox was thereby guaranteed to succeed, could not fail, regardless of circumstances, and was able to hire the best PR specialists to meet these goals and take on the role of an authorative source.

Paul E. Vallely is the senior military analyst for FOX News. He also co-authored a book on PSYOP and it's evolution to MINDWAR.

This is just from a mainstream NYT Blue/Red rant:
Fox News is a rising profit center within his News Corporation, and each red-state dollar that it makes can be plowed back into the rest of Fox's very blue entertainment portfolio. The Murdoch cultural stable includes recent books like Jenna Jameson's "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star" and the Vivid Girls' "How to Have a XXX Sex Life," which have both been synergistically, even joyously, promoted on Fox News by willing hosts like Rita Cosby and, needless to say, Mr. O'Reilly. There are "real fun parts and exciting parts," gushed Ms. Cosby to Ms. Jameson on Fox News's "Big Story Weekend," ...

Thomas Frank, the author of "What's the Matter With Kansas?," by common consent the year's most prescient political book. "Values," Mr. Frank writes, "always take a backseat to the needs of money once the elections are won." Under this perennial "trick," as he calls it, Republican politicians promise to stop abortion and force the culture industry "to clean up its act" - until the votes are counted. Then they return to their higher priorities, like cutting capital gains and estate taxes. Mr. Murdoch and his fellow cultural barons - from Sumner Redstone, the Bush-endorsing C.E.O. of Viacom, to Richard Parsons, the Republican C.E.O. of Time Warner, to Jeffrey Immelt, the Bush-contributing C.E.O. of G.E. (NBC Universal) - are about to be rewarded not just with more tax breaks but also with deregulatory goodies increasing their power to market salacious entertainment. It's they, not Susan Sarandon and Bruce Springsteen, who actually set the cultural agenda Gary Bauer and company say they despise.

USA Today and Navy Times are both part of the Gannett family of news outlets. ... Gannett also publishes Air Force Times, Army Times, Marine Corp Times, Armed Forces Journal, Military Market, Military City, and Defense News. In other words, it's just your typical independent, civilian media organization.

Bonesman/CIA hand William F. Buckley, Jr. is the Editor of the arch-conservative National Review. The National Review's President and Chairman is none other than Thomas Rhodes, who was recently a Heritage Foundation board member.

Nothing here except interlocking conflict-of-interest with govt and big business when it comes to informing the public.

AT&T - AT&T provided NSA eavesdroppers with full access to its customers' phone calls, and shunted its customers' internet traffic to data-mining
equipment installed in a secret room in its San Francisco switching center, according to a former AT&T worker cooperating in the Electronic Frontier
 Foundation's lawsuit against the company.

The National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T,
Verizon and BellSouth, people with direct knowledge of the arrangement told USA TODAY. May 11, 2006

War On Terror Propaganda  amazing - "The President has requested that all members of his cabinet and sub-cabinet incorporate message points
on the Global War on Terror into speeches, including specific examples of what each agency is doing to aid the reconstruction of Iraq," the May 2
e-mail from USDA speechwriter Heather Vaughn began.

June 30 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. National Security Agency asked AT&T Inc. to help it set up a domestic call monitoring site seven months before
the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, lawyers claimed June 23 in court papers filed in New York federal court.

The NSA initiative, code-named ``Pioneer Groundbreaker,'' asked AT&T unit AT&T Solutions to build exclusively for NSA use a network operations
center which duplicated AT&T's Bedminster, New Jersey facility, the court papers claimed. That plan was abandoned in favor of the NSA acquiring
the monitoring technology itself, plaintiffs' lawyers Bruce Afran said.

John M. Forbes - Investing in Bell's invention, Forbes became the founder and President of Bell's successful venture.

From Glen Yeadon's "From the streets of Little Beirut" (2/28/03):
"CIA censorship and media-propagandizing was supposed to have stopped in the mid-1970s after the Church Committee investigated the
CIA's Project Mockingbird. At the time, every major media outlet was infected with Mockingbird. Coexisting with Project Mockingbird was a
FBI operation named COINTELPRO. COINTELPRO was successful in destroying not only leftist groups but also more importantly the press of
the left. Ramparts Magazine was a major target eliminated by COINTELPRO. In one short decade, the alternative press had been wiped out."
David Horowitz (ex-Marxist) now has FrontPageMag.com, funding grants, Sarah Mellon Scaife Foundation -- This foundation is financed by
the Mellon industrial, oil and banking fortune. At one time, its largest single holding was stock in Gulf Oil Corporation.  Democracy Now!, Amy
 Goodman on COINTELPRO in 2004.

John Rendon and his public relations firm, The Rendon Group, specialize in making images, manipulating scenes and managing news. He is
currently under a $100,000 per month contract with the White House to track foreign news reports and offer advice on media strategy.
Rendon consulted with the Pentagon when it created the Office of Strategic Influence, i.e. Office of Disseminating Lies. Supposedly this
office was snuffed after publicity leaked that the Pentagon planned to use it to spread disinformation. But, whether it is gone or just gone
underground is a legitimate question.  (Don Rumsfeld quietly said it is NOT gone, but continues surreptitiously, quietly.)

"Persuasion works best when it's invisible. The most effective marketing worms its way into our consciousness, leaving intact the perception
that we have reached our opinion and made our choices independently." (George Monbiot, The Guardian, UK 5/14/02). This is what Beers and
Rendon do best and it is why Mr. Bush's administration hired them.

This just makes it easier and cheaper.

This phase of the BBB's "Operation: Shock & Awe" (pie-ing a reporter) is meant to address not an individual telling lies, but rather, an
entire corporate-industrial complex. The directors governing the media conglomerates also sit on the boards of the military weapons
manufacturers and all of the other industries in an interlocking directorate of power. So, it is not really accurate or enough to just say,
"the corporate media is biased." In point of fact, the corporate media IS the war, is the military, is the destruction of the environment,
is the gentrification of our cities, is the criminalization of the poor and non-aryan and foreign-born...it is everything that we loath about
this society.

Subverting The Media "No such beast as a free press exists.  Long ago it fell under the control of the CIA and corporate wealth."
We know that the official government story of 9-11, can only be called "absolutely ludicrous".

The govt and private corporations pays professional bloggers, with OUR tax dollars, to create propaganda to "sell" their war to us.
They expect us to email their military-industry propaganda about "supporting our troops" to our closest friends.  We comply.

Just like any old con artist with some skills, behavioral psychologists and PR consultants seize upon our deepest desires, our highes
t moral, ethical, and religious values, and our noble love of America, because they know they can twist us around, confuse us,
and screw us with the very best values we possess, and USE us for their benefit.

They have to spin it, because dropping bombs on people, destroying property essential for life, and destroying homes that people
have worked their whole lives for, raiding someone's private home and lining up wives, mothers, and children and tying them up
and shooting them, has nothing whatsover to do with love of America, but they know enough Americans are stupid enough to fall for
the lies if they spread them thick.

They know, because it's a predictable pattern throughout history, and because they do surveys on the 'effectiveness' of varous
propaganda vehicles, just like Neilsen surveys on TV shows and other consumer surveys.

"I admit it -- the liberal media were never that powerful, and the whole thing was often used as an excuse
by conservatives for conservative failures."William Kristol, editor of Weekly Standard, head of Project for a
New American Century (PNAC), The New Yorker, 5/22/95 Kristol was the cofounder (along with another
neocon scion, Robert Kagan) of the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), a pressure
group created in the late 1990s by a passel of prominent neoconservatives and foreign policy hawks.
During the lead up to the Iraq War, PNAC was one of several so-called letterhead groups led by
neoconservatives—others included the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, for which Kristol served on
the advisory board, and Americans for Victory over Terrorism—that helped promote public and official
acceptance of an aggressive "war on terror" aimed at reshaping the Middle East. In his 1993 book
Pandaemonium: Ethnicity in International Politics, Daniel Patrick Moynihan (hawk himself, once close friends
with Irving Kristol and the young William Kristol) wrote of the neocons: "They wished for a military posture
approaching mobilization; they would create or invent whatever crises were required to bring this about."

The CIA's secret activities, covert missions, and connections of control are all done under the pretense and protection of national security with no accountability whatsoever, at least in their minds. Considering the public is held accountable for everything we think, say, and do there is something seriously wrong with this picture. The CIA is the President's secret army, who have been and continue to be conveniently above the law with unlimited power and authority, to conduct a reign of terror around the globe.

The "old boy network" of socializing, talking shop, and tapping each other for favors outside the halls of government made it inevitable that the CIA and Corporate America would become allies, thus the systematic infiltration and takeover of the media.

Under the guise of 'American' objectives and lack of congressional oversight, the CIA accomplish their exploits by using every trick in the book (and they know quite a few) that they actually teach in the notorious "School of the Americas", nicknamed the "School of Dictators" and "School of Assassins" by critics. The Association for Responsible Dissent estimates that 6 million people had died by 1987 as a result of CIA covert operations, called an "American Holocaust" by former State Department official William Blum. In 1948, the CIA recreated its covert action wing called the Office of Policy Coordination with Wall Street lawyer Frank Wisner as its first director. Another early elitist who served as Director of the CIA from 1953 to 1961 was Allen Dulles, a senior partner at the Wall Street firm of Sullivan and Cromwell, which represented the Rockefeller empire and other trusts, corporations, and cartels.

Starting in the early days of the Cold War (late 40's), the CIA began a secret project called Operation Mockingbird, with the intent of buying influence behind the scenes at major media outlets and putting reporters on the CIA payroll, which has proven to be a stunning ongoing success. The CIA effort to recruit American news organizations and journalists to become spies and disseminators of propaganda, was headed up by Frank Wisner, Allen Dulles, Richard Helms, and Philip Graham (publisher of The Washington Post). Wisner had taken Graham under his wing to direct the program code-named Operation Mockingbird and both have presumably committed suicide.

Media assets will eventually include ABC, NBC, CBS, Time, Newsweek, Associated Press, United Press International (UPI), Reuters, Hearst Newspapers, Scripps-Howard, Copley News Service, etc. and 400 journalists, who have secretly carried out assignments according to documents on file at CIA headquarters, from intelligence-gathering to serving as go-betweens. The CIA had infiltrated the nation's businesses, media, and universities with tens of thousands of on-call operatives by the 1950's. CIA Director Dulles had staffed the CIA almost exclusively with Ivy League graduates, especially from Yale with figures like George Herbert Walker Bush from the "Skull and Crossbones" Society.

Many Americans still insist or persist in believing that we have a free press, while getting most of their news from state-controlled television, under the misconception that reporters are meant to serve the public. Reporters are paid employees and serve the media owners, who usually cower when challenged by advertisers or major government figures. Robert Parry reported the first breaking stories about Iran-Contra for Associated Press that were largely ignored by the press and congress, then moving to Newsweek he witnessed a retraction of a true story for political reasons. In 'Fooling America: A Talk by Robert Parry' he said, "The people who succeeded and did well were those who didn't stand up, who didn't write the big stories, who looked the other way when history was happening in front of them, and went along either consciously or just by cowardice with the deception of the American people."

Major networks are primarily controlled by giant corporations that are obligated by law, to put the profits of their investors ahead of all other considerations which are often in conflict with the practice of responsible journalism. There were around 50 corporations a couple of decades ago, which was considered monopolistic by many and yet today, these companies have become larger and fewer in number as the biggest ones absorb their rivals. This concentration of ownership and power reduces the diversity of media voices, as news falls into the hands of large conglomerates with holdings in many industries that interferes in newsgathering, because of conflicts of interest. Mockingbird was an immense financial undertaking with funds flowing from the CIA largely through the Congress for Cultural Freedom (CCF) founded by Tom Braden with Pat Buchanon of CNN's Crossfire.

Media corporations share members of the board of directors with a variety of other large corporations including banks, investment companies, oil companies, health care, pharmaceutical, and technology companies. Until the 1980's, media systems were generally domestically owned, regulated, and national in scope. However, pressure from the IMF, World Bank, and US government to deregulate and privatize, the media, communication, and new technology resulted in a global commercial media system dominated by a small number of super-powerful transnational media corporations (mostly US based), working to advance the cause of global markets and the CIA agenda.

The first tier of the nine giant firms that dominate the world are Time Warner/AOL, Disney/ABC, Bertelsmann, Viacom/CBS, Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation/Fox, General Electric/NBC, Sony, Universal/Seagram, Tele-Communications, Inc. or TCI and AT&T. This is just the head of the octopus which has its second and third tier tentacles working together in unison or feigned division. This would include The Washington Post/Newsweek, The New York Times/Weekly Standard, Tribune Co., US News, Gannett/USA Today, Dow Jones/Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Knight-Ridder, etcetera. A good site to visit for more information is Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, a public interest media watchdog group, at www.fair.org/index.html, www.fair.org/mediafiles/index.html and www.fair.org/extra/9711/gmg.html. Media propaganda tactics include blackouts, misdirections, expert opinions to echo the Establishment line, smears, defining popular opinions, mass entertainment distractions, and Hobson's Choice (the media presents the so-called conservative and liberal positions).

"Who Controls the Media? The Subversion of the Free Press by the CIA, The Depraved Spies and Moguls of the CIA's Operation Mockingbird", "The CIA: America's Premier International Terrorist Organization", and "Virtual Government: CIA Mind Control Operations in America" by Alex Constantine are an excellent source of information on this topic: www.alexconstantine.50megs.com/the_cia_and.html and www.alexconstantine.50megs.com. David Guyatt has written books and many articles including one entitled "Subverting the Media" at www.deepblacklies.co.uk/subverting_the_media.htm. Then there are two articles called "A Timeline of CIA Atrocities" and "The Origins of the Overclass" by Steve Kangas that are very informative although from a more liberal perspective. Steve will not be writing anymore articles as he is no longer with us, having unfortunately met his untimely death that was 'apparently' from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. If you read about him on his web page that is still available, you will see that he did not seem like a person who was suffering from deep depression. In his memory, please take the time to read what he wrote at www.korpios.org/resurgent/CIAtimeline.html, www.korpios.org/resurgent/CIAtimeline.html, and www.korpios.org/resurgent/index.html.

CNN aired "Valley of Death" in June of 1998 and Time magazine (both owned by Time-Warner) ran a story about a secret mission called Operation Tailwind and the activities of SOG, Studies and Observations Group, a secret elite commando unit of the Army's Special Forces that used lethal nerve gas (sarin), on a mission to Laos designed to kill American defectors. Suddenly the network was awash in denials and the story was hushed up, as usual. Acknowledged use of this gas coming at a time when the U.S. government was trying to get Saddam to comply with weapons inspections, was an embarrassment to say the least. What hypocrisy! Having actually used the weapons on our own troops, then complaining and accusing Saddam of potential use of stored similar weapons, of which some were manufactured in and supplied by the U.S. The broadcast was prepared after exhaustive research and rooted in considerable supportive data. To decide for yourself what the truth is read Floyd Abrams' report on the CNN site at www.cnn.com/US/9807/02/tailwind.findings/index.html.

This is a fwd from an established Iranian dissident named Alireza Jafarzadeh.  One can be sure that nothing much he writes about the
mullahs's regime will be favorable.  The uncomfortable aspect is that pretty much all verifiable information that he and his associates
have sent out for years has been accurate; some important data have been used by the IAEA.

The interview below with Maryam Rajavi is quite readable.

Friends,

Hope all is well. Iranian regime's defiant president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said today "We have now reached 3,000 machines." In ideal
conditions 3,000 centrifuges can make enough highly enriched uranium in a year's time for an atom bomb. He also said that his regime
"could not care less" about UN Security Council resolutions aimed at halting Tehran's nuclear drive.

At the same time, Iran's prominent opposition leader, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, in a rare interview with the Christian Science Monitor today
told the paper that the regime is less than two years away from having the necessary ingredients for producing a nuclear weapon,
as part of its plan to "create an Iranian empire" in the Middle East.

Rajavi praised the Bush administration for its recent branding of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity. The IRGC,
she said, holds key positions in government, dominates much of the economy, controls the nuclear program, and has a major role in
drug trafficking. The US government's action against it, she says, is a "clear testament and an indispensable prelude to democratic
change in Iran."

One-on-one with Iran's opposition  A noted dissident says Iran is closer to a nuclear bomb than we think.
November 07, 2007  By John Hughes  Provo , Utah

The head of the Iranian opposition group in exile that supplied early intelligence on Iran's clandestine nuclear program says President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has engineered a clever disinformation campaign to convince foreign experts that Iran is eight to 10 years away
from developing a nuclear bomb. But in fact, she says, the regime is less than two years away from producing such a weapon, as part of
its plan to "create an Iranian empire" in the Middle East.
In a wide-ranging weekend telephone conversation from her base of exile in Paris, Maryam Rajavi told me that Mr. Ahmadinejad has
purged between 40 and 50 senior military officers who are in disagreement with his plans. She also explained that the resignation of
Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, followed a dispute between Mr. Larijani and Ahmadinejad over "incentives" Larijani had been
prepared to offer his interlocutors in the West.
Ms. Rajavi heads the Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), whose military arm is the People's Mujahideen of Iran.
The Mujahideen are listed as a terrorist organization by the US for its violent tactics. (The group allegedly supported the takeover of the
US Embassy in Tehran in 1979.) But in a bizarre twist, some 3,800 Mujahideen fighters who later conducted operations against the
Iranian regime from Iraqi territory during the reign of Saddam Hussein are currently being held in benign custody in Iraq by US forces as
"protected" persons. The current Iraqi government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is attempting to prosecute or deport them. Rajavi says
this is at the behest of Iran.
Both the NCRI and the People's Mujahideen claim to have substantial underground support in Iran. Though the information of exiled groups
about events in their tyrannized homelands has come under acute scrutiny since Iraqi exiles produced questionable data about events in
Saddam Hussein's Iraq, the NCRI is credited by US sources with accurately identifying clandestine Iranian nuclear facilities early on.
By interesting coincidence, The Times (London) recently cited Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa as the first Arab
leader directly to accuse Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons. "While they don't have the bomb yet, they are developing it, or the capability
for it," The Times quotes the crown prince as saying, adding that this is the first time one of Iran's Gulf neighbors has "effectively accused
[Iran] of lying about its nuclear programme."
In her weekend conversation, Rajavi was adamant that "military intervention" in Iran by the US or others is not desirable. However, she
praised the Bush administration for its recent branding of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity. The IRGC, she said,
holds key positions in government, dominates much of the economy, controls the nuclear program, and has a major role in drug trafficking.
The US government's action against it, she says, is a "clear testament and an indispensable prelude to democratic change in Iran."
Her own program for change in Iran is a combination of accelerated sanctions and political pressure from without, and upheaval arising from
discontent within. Getting rid of her own organization's "terrorist" label, she argues, would help energize internal critics of the regime.
She says support for this is growing among both Republican and Democratic members of Congress. She is heartened by recent efforts of
British parliamentarians to persuade the European Union to lift restrictions on Iranian opposition groups and to blacklist Iran's Revolutionary
 Guards.
The Guards, she says, are responsible for the torture and execution of many Iranians and are the "center of all the disasters" of the Iranian
people. They are also key to Iran's military role in Iraq. According to Rajavi, they use the "Ramezan" garrison and four tactical bases near
the Iran-Iraq border to send arms and explosives to Iraq. NCRI has exposed three factories in a very secure area in Tehran that are making
roadside bombs to send to Iraq, she adds.
In a previous conversation with Rajavi a little more than two years ago, she spoke in Persian, translated into English through an interpreter.
On this occasion she spoke in heavily accented English. "I studied English in high school," she said, "but I have been practicing it more."
She also speaks French.
As we began our conversation, she reminded me that "everything I warned you about two years ago about Ahmadinejad has come true.
He has declared war [on his perceived enemies]."

Defiant Iran reaches key nuclear enrichment target

Iran has reached a key target of 3,000 centrifuges for uranium enrichment, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday, vowing to ignore
UN resolutions calling for a halt to Tehran's sensitive nuclear work.
"We have now reached 3,000 machines," a defiant Ahmadinejad told a rally in the northeastern city of Birjand.
Scientists say that in ideal conditions 3,000 centrifuges can make enough highly enriched uranium in a year's time for an atom bomb.
The hardline president also said that Iran "could not care less" about UN Security Council resolutions aimed at halting Tehran's nuclear drive.
The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in August that Iran had 12 cascades of 164 centrifuges (1,968 in total) running simultaneously
to enrich uranium, and that 656 others were either under construction or being tested.
The centrifuges are located at an underground nuclear facility at Natanz in central Iran.
Iran has so far defied international calls to suspend enrichment, the process by which nuclear fuel is made, as well as -- in highly purified forms --
the core of an atomic bomb.
Speaking at the rally, Ahmadinejad vowed that Iran would continue ignoring UN Security Council resolutions imposing two rounds of sanctions
on Tehran for its refusal to suspend enrichment.
"Some people say implement the resolutions but we say the resolutions are based on a wrong report," he told the rally.

"Iran will not give any credit to these resolutions."
"They should know that the Iranian nation could not care less about the sanctions," Ahmadinejad said, adding that the Iranian people "will not
retreat an iota from any of their rights, especially nuclear rights."
Iran denies Western charges that it is trying to build atomic weapons under the guise of its civilian nuclear programme, and says it only wants
to enrich uranium for civilian energy purposes.
The sanctions target Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, but the United States which is spearheading international efforts to thwart
Iran's atomic work has imposed a set of unilateral sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear defiance and alleged support of terrorism.
Washington has blacklisted Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard corps and its Qods force, accused of arming and training insurgents in Iraq.
It has also blacklisted major Iranian banks and successfully encouraged virtually all major European banks into cutting business with the Islamic
republic.
However, Iran's status as the world's fourth oil exporter and OPEC's second largest means it cannot allow itself to become detached from the
world economy.
Iran and the IAEA agreed on a timetable in August for Tehran to provide answers to outstanding questions over its nuclear programme.
The IAEA has been probing Iran's programme for the past four years but has so far failed to conclude whether it is peaceful or not.
The Vienna-based nuclear watchdog is poised to publish a new report this month on Iran's cooperation in providing answers, which is to serve
as a key part of further discussions at the UN on whether to impose a third round of sanctions.
EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana is also due to report to major world powers before mid-November on Iran's willingness to give up uranium
enrichment in exchange for political and trade incentives.
Security Council permanent members -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States -- plus Germany, back the drive for a third UN
Security Council resolution and vote on Iran, unless upcoming reports showed "a positive outcome".
Although Washington insists it wants a diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff with Iran it has never ruled out a military option with
President George W. Bush raising the prospect of "nuclear holocaust" and "World War III" if Iran acquires atomic weapons.
Iranian leaders have vowed a crushing response to any aggression, while hinting at a disruption in the flow of oil supplies through the
strategic Gulf waters.

All hairdressers are in employment of the government. Hair are your aerials. They pick up signals
from the cosmos and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bold-headed men are uptight -
 likewise suits and ties.

       I blame THEM.
I bought one of THEM gadgets...
(THEY sold it to me)
When I got it home, it broke!
I had to call THE GUY to come and fix it.
I think THE GUY is the president of THEM and THEY.

Thanks to this posting, my psychiatrist dosen't want me looking at this site anymore...

I'm beginning to think he's one of THEM.

That's what THEY want you to think. It goes much deeper than that. Deeper, AND all the way
to the top, AND the LIE permeates everything we experience. In fact, what's more, is that YOU are
directly involved, at a crucial level in all this. Get that? Yes, YOU are the KEY that those at
THE TOP wish to USE, in order to gain access to HIDDEN TRUTHS that contain the SECRET of ultimate
POWER.

The Da Vinci Code was just another diversion. Look past that and see what THEY want to keep
hidden. It's hidden everywhere, right in front of our very noses. They're evil bastards, MOCKING
us all the time.

By the way, those who enjoy "Wacko conspiracy spotting" like I do should be sure to catch
Penn & Teller's Bullshit", a series on Showtime that looks into all manner of this sort of thing,
from faked moon landings to Kennedy assassination plots that say: "Who WASN'T involved? Nobody."

It's the socks. It's the socks and the washing machines. And another thing...
well, two things... the washing machines are in with the vacuum cleaners. They call
those things Hoovers because J Edgar Hoover put listening devices in them, to suck
up any spare words you leave lying around. The socks use the vacuum cleaner to reform
into socks, after the matter dispersers in the washing machines... Gaack!

Culinary Culture Club 116

Yesterday I had the wonderful privilege of attending a tasting at Culinary Culture Club 116,
a unique private loft that specializes in Japanese food events and presentations. My friend
Patrice Snoeck, a prominent Paris event and party planner, invited me to taste some samples
for a big event his company, And So What, (check out his cool website), is producing in May
for his client, Campari.

We arrived at 5PM, just in time for me to have a late afternoon feeding to tide me over
before dinner. The manager, Sayuli Tezuka greeted us with a warm smile and was so gracious
in welcoming us to her place. The large open and airy space was Zen -like with black hi
lacquered cabinets, granite counter tops, state of the art stainless steel kitchen, and
natural wood plank floors. It’s sixth floor location bordering the Marais had 3 spectacular
and different views of the city, even making this now-jaded Parisian swoon. I went out on
the terrace, parked myself on one of the dark wood chaise lounges and fell in love with
Paris all over again.

I love the concept of this place –a private club that anyone can become a member of by
registering online. Exclusive but not snobby. You are then able to attend all kinds of
food events including formal Japanese tea service, sake tastings, and a secrets to
making sushi class. The space is also available private parties and even private dinners
 for 2 or more.

I look forward to spending more time at this peaceful and serene oasis just blocks from
 my house.
